William Jefferson Clinton (Profiles of the Presidents)
Published in School & Library Binding by Compass Point Books (January, 2002)
Author: Ann Heinrichs
Average review score:

A nice introductory junvile biography of Bill Clinton
In setting the tone for this juvenile biography of William Jefferson Clinton for the Profiles of the Presidents series, Ann Heinrichs highlights Clinton's reputation as the "Comeback Kid," who never quits. This is used to explain why Clinton defeated an incumbent Republican president who enjoyed the highest popularity rating of all time, became the first Democratic president to be re-elected since Franklin Roosevelt, and survived an impeachment. The key question for most teachers or parents before recommending this book for young readers may well be what does this book have to say about the impeachment and the circumstances around it. Heinrichs explains that Clinton was accused of having improper relations with a young female White House intern and that when questioned about it, Clinton did not tell the truth. With regards to the resolution, she makes two points. First, that most Americans apparently cared more about the booming U.S. economy than about Clinton's personal life. Second, that the Clintons were cleared of any wrongdoing in the six-year, multi-million dollar Whitewater investigation. That is certainly even-handed enough and it is reasonable that a volume that is perfectly suited to being a young student's introduction to the life of this particular President does not get into the sordid details.

This book does provide some indication of what it meant to label Clinton a "New Democrat," but most of the emphasis is the key events in his political career. Young readers might have a hard time distinguishing between those things that Clinton wanted to do, such as provide a major overhaul of the U.S. health system, and what his Administration actually did accomplish during his two terms in the White House. But given that the Profiles of the Presidents series is ideally suited to be the first juvenile biography students read about Clinton or any other President, emphasizing biographical details over political philosophy makes a certain amount of sense. One of the signatures of this superb little series is that these books are profusely illustrated with historic and contemporary photographs (including a photograph of the Clinton birthplace in Hope, Arkansas, taken in a pouring rain, and the famous one of young Clinton shaking hands with President Kennedy), most of which are in color. In the back of the book you will find a glossary, fast facts about the president, a parallel timeline of world and presidential events, an index, and other resources that young readers can use to help them understand the life and times of William Jefferson Clinton better.

Uproarious fun
This guy really nailed the awful (and funny) truth about Bill Clinton, his mendacity and pandering, long before anyone heard of Monica Lewinsky. The book humorously makes it clear Clinton was full of it and himself from the earliest days of his presidency.

Year of the Rat: How Bill Clinton Compromised U.S. Security for Chinese Cash
Published in Hardcover by Regnery Publishing, Inc. (October, 1998)
Authors: Edward Timperlake, William C. Triplett, and William, II Triplett

A well documented and compelling book.
This book is well written and a must read for those who want to be informed of Clinton's actual China policies. Since this book was published, even more damning evidence has come to light regarding the wholesale theft of our most valuable nuclear technology and the proven evidence of this administration's willingness to cover up their malfeasance and negligence. Of course the Clinton spin machine immediately set out to blame previous administrations for their own ineptness. I would encourage anyone who wants to know more about the truth in trading national security secrets for illegal campaign contributions to read Senator James Inhofe's commentary or any of the books by Don McIlvaney. Of the dozens of books I've read about the Clinton administration, none has been disproven and none have been sued for libel. Can all of these people be wrong? MonicaGate was merely a smokescreen to cause scandal fatigue and distract the people from reading the serious and credible information set forth in this book. An excellent and compelling book.Dene

All True
Year of the Rat is an exceptionally well-written articulation of all the blips and blats of news that never got much attention even when the stories were blasted from the pages of the new york times, the washington times and the far eastern economic review. journalists have been attempting to expose the clinton administration's collusion and corruption with China for years and all they've been rewarded with is the yawns of soccer moms and soccer dads asking - yuh ok and so what'd the dow do? The beauty of this book is that it pieces together very gracefully the extent of the foreign-policy-for-sale (at firesale prices!) of the clinton administration and enables the public to view as a whole the extent of the sellout. we are going to be affected by this treason long after clinton has departed the scene. i hope this serves as a serious wakeup call to the unsuspecting american public that we're pretty vulnerable.

Forget High Crimes this is "Treason"
Every American owes it to themselves to read this book. Future generations will ask was Lewinsky more important than the " The Year of the Rat" One must come to the reality that the PRC thinks in terms of generations and decades not like we Americans who look at tomorrow as a future. Their clandestine work paid off in spades,China for years worked at inflitrating our system of Democracy,in the Universities, Press and Media Just look at their agents they sent from Asian nations who acted on their behalf. The book reads as a who's who in Corporate Asia. How about the Congressmen and women who we elect and so strongly support the China propaganda of open markets. Our leaders in Congress have sold out the American's in every trade policy for decades. No this is not a right wing review it is the truth Read this book before you regret not reading it. After spending trillions in defense of our nation since WWII the politicians sold out for pennies on the dollar. While Clinton professes that for the first time in years our children can go to bed knowing that their are no missles aimed at America He did forget to add that the USA's Loral and Hughes corporations made sure to make him a liar!

The Hunting of the President: The Ten-Year Campaign to Destroy Bill and Hillary Clinton
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (February, 2000)
Authors: Joe Conason and Gene Lyons
Average review score:

Spreading the Poison
Beginning in late 1993, I began to read news reports in my local newspaper, the San Jose Mercury News, which contained serious but unsubstantiated allegations about an Arkansas land deal known as Whitewater and the possible criminality of the President and his wife. There seemed to be quite a few of these "news articles" and I began to wonder if all of that smoke did not have a substantial fire at its center. Four years later, I start "pulling" the articles on Whitewater and by now, the numerous "Gates" being investigated and reported on in the daily newspapers, from the archives of the Mercury News and about twenty other Knight-Ridder newspapers across the country. One of the things I learned that a large proportion of these stories were by four reporters -- Jeff Gerth and Stephen Labaton of the New York Times, Michael Isikoff and Susan Schmidt of the Washington Post.

This was an interesting experience, and can be duplicated by anyone reading these words. This is what I discovered: In the San Jose Mercury News alone from October 31 1993 to March 31, 1994, there were a total of 163 stories. Of these, 158 had been published in a 106-day span of time from December 16, 1993 to the end of March, about 1.5 stories a day or two stories every three days. It became even more interesting when I "pulled" the "Whitewater" and "Madison Guaranty" stories from twenty Knight-Ridder newspapers in the 62 days from October 31,1993 to December 31, 1993. There were no less than 83 unique items, about 1.3 items a day, and of course many of the newspapers were publishing identical stories during this time. When you look at the coverage in this way, it looks more like indoctrination rather than reporting.

What were the sources of these unsubstantiated allegations? Joe Conason and Gene Lyons describe these sources in The Hunting of the President as a loose cabal of "longtime Clinton adversaries," "defeated politicians, disappointed office seekers, right-wing pamphleteers, wealthy eccentrics, zany private detectives, religious fanatics," and in my view, the primary culprit -- "die-hard segregationists. . . . " Here, as in the rest of the book, Conason and Lyons restrain themselves from going beyond what they can prove or substantiate from sources -- a demonstration of journalism as it should be practised in this age of "infotainment."

But this cabal had a powerful effect on this country and its politics because as Conason and Lyons tell us in detail, the once-respected New York Times and Washington Post not only published unsubstantiated allegation after unsubstantiated allegation, they also withheld any exculpatory information. Like sheep, the rest of Mainstream Media passively followed.

And here is the real danger the authors expose. The cabal was the source of the allegations which acted as toxins poisoning political discourse in this country. But the Mainstream Media was continuously pumping these toxins into the blood stream of America. Without the criminal carelessness and disregard of the Mainstream Media, the press, the TV, and talk radio, the cabal would have affected only a small hate-filled audience on the right. Instead the poison was spread throughout the country, and into every metropolitan area, city and small town.

Eye Opening
Conason & Lyons provide a well documented description of the tactics that were used to discredit President Clinton. Now, I'm of the opinion that Clinton went a long way to opening himself up to these attacks, however the fact remains that the attacks were vicious, well funded, well coordinated, and effective. At the end of the day, these attacks on the president were successful, if we can define ruining the public image of a sitting president as success. In the end America suffered as a result of this, and we owe it to ourselves to understand what really happened. This book is a good starting point, but you will need to read it with an open mind, since it will likely contradict much of what you have seen in the media.

This is what "Slander" wishes it could be
Conason and Lyons examine, in minute and well-documented detail, the origins of the attacks on Bill Clinton and the men and women behind the theater of the absurd that it became.

A point-by-point refutation of the tall tales and outright lies that became accepted as truth, this book tells the real tale behind the character assasination funded mainly by conservative publisher Richard Melon Scaife.

Scaife spent millions and millions of dollars trying to find even the smallest bit of dirt on Clinton. His outlets spewed invective based on the outrageous statements of women out to ride the Clinton-bashing train to fiscal security, despite the fact that investigation showed every accusation to be baseless, absurd and provably false.

It also demonstrates how lax the media has become (and I say this as a former newspaper reporter). Gone are the days when Woodward and Bernstein tracked down even the smallest leads, searching for the key to Watergate. Today, reporters are satisfied to reprint press releases without verifying the substance. Editors are little more than chair-bound spell-checkers. Publishers are merely mouthpieces for multinational conglomerates out to further their own interests.

Hopefully, history will remember the 'Clinton Miracle' of eight years of unprecendented peace, prosperity and success rather than his single documented transgression.

Attention to Detail : A Gentleman's Guide to Professional Appearance and Conduct

A Good Start - But There are Better Books
This book is a good start but really only starts to scratch the surface regarding men's style. There's no mention of what style shoes are best, proper ways to coordinate outfits, etc. The book is really quite thin, something like 80 pages or so. It's much more of a pamphlet to help act as a "refresher" course than a full fledged tome where you will get gobs of good information. It's just not in there.

Along with this book, I also bought Gentlemen Style by Bernhard Roetzel and Guenter Beer. This is the book that I keep coming back to. Lots of full color photographs, with names of the best designers and what situations you'd wear their products (work, play, both). This is exactly the book I was looking for. I'd recommend this book over Greenleaf's book, although I consider Greenleaf's book a good "primer". Just don't consider it the only book you should buy.

Fantastic Advice
It's about time men had a guide that helps. I'm sick to see how guys dress nowadays. If you have questions on how to do it right, read this book. The clothes checklist is a great start for your job and the real world. It shows what to buy and wear because the grunge look doesn't fly on Wall Street.

Excellent Advice for Men
I had my boyfriend read this as he was job hunting. He wouldn't listen to me, but he devoured this book and really started to spiff up his appearance not just for job interviews but all the time. He learned that it's not just about "accept me as I am torn T-shirt and all". The way you appear and act sends out all kinds of subconscious signals. They must be positive because you never get a second chance to make a first impression. This guide is easy to follow, brief and filled with great pictures that really tell a thousands words. Kudos to Greenleaf on a great little book that really has the power to make American men a little more wonderful to look at.

Hell to Pay: The Unfolding Story of Hillary Rodham Clinton
Published in Paperback by Regnery Publishing, Inc. (November, 2001)
Author: Barbara Olson
Average review score:

An HR-C classic
What most impresses me about Ms. Olson's book is that it's an extremely readable, comprehensive account of the Clintons' scandals, lies, and PR dodges and spins throughout their many years on the public payroll. Although little in this book breaks entirely new ground, Olson does chronicle each episode without histrionics, and the astonishing weight of her evidence is a damning indictment of their arrogance, abuses of power, and diabolical manipulation of the media and public opinion -- not the least of which was the absolute willingness of each of them to commit perjury. Brava, Barbara, you made your case!

Well Done!!
This book is enough to scare any patriotic American. Barbara Olsen was a brave woman to go ahead and print it , considering what has happened to some others who crossed Hilary or "The Clintons". It is no wonder Krushev said "We will take you without firing a shot." This is what he meant--We will infiltrate your media, children, congress men and women, senate, any official ,newspapers and keep on badgering until you have become a changed country. Hilary is still adhering to the
Saul Alinsky rules for radicals. She has done what they teach all radicals--to dress and talk like the establishment and continue the agenda of a true radical, while seeming to be a regular guy, meanwhile demoralizing and destroying America. In other words be a "Wolf In Sheep's Clothing." According to the book "Hell To Pay" she has known Tom Dashle for a long time. It is interesting to watch her when she can get right up under his shoulder and mastermind him like she did Bill Clinton. "Dashle, the next Bill Clinton."
Also, former federal prosecutors don't make mistakes, Barbara Olsen did a terrific job of exposing Hilary Clinton for what she is. We should all be frightened that she is in our senate!

Glorious Book About a Despicable Creature
It's all here in a concise and entertaining package--the truth about the infamous, pear-shaped, waddling atrocity in a pantsuit. Fun and factual, this book is a definitive portrait of the over-the-top, Grand Guignol life of a true villain. Don't miss it!

The Woman Who Wouldn't Talk
Published in Hardcover by Carroll & Graf (22 November, 2002)
Authors: Susan McDougal, Pat Harris, and Helen Thomas
Average review score:

Finally, the truth about Kenneth Starr's witchhunt
I don't read much non-fiction, but I couldn't put this book down. Susan McDougal's courage was absolutely amazing. It would have been so easy to give Starr's zealots the lies that would have kept her free, but she didn't. She made poor choices out of misguided loyalty, and she paid dearly for them. I admired her frankness in admitting her errors in judgment and never looking for the easy way out. Bravo, Susan!

An Amazing and Courageous Woman
McDougal's story deserves to be read by every person in America who has ever wondered why they should do the right and painful thing in the face of powerful enemies and overwhelming temptation to save oneself at the expense of another. This is a tale of heroines and heroes, of good friends and false friends, of villains and the lowest scum to ever stride a courtroom. Ken Starr and his cronies, and those in various jails and federal prisons, who tried to assist him in breaking the spirit of this courageous and honest woman, have much to answer. She was an ordinary woman who faced a difficult challenge with rare courage. Her story is an inspiration and a source of encouragement in these difficult political times. The tale is fascinating and well written, and you will keep thinking about the book after you put it down. Susan McDougal took the hit for a lot of people when she went to prison for refusing to talk about Whitewater, and the Clinton land deal that went bad. In reading this book, you get a strong sense of McDougal's honesty and integrity, and how difficult it must have been, in the presence of so much insanity, to maintain that integrity.

This book should be compulsory reading
This book is one of the most important books I've read in years and I urge everyone to read it. What Susan McDougal tells us about the right wing zealots who threw her in jail because she refused to lie about Bill Clinton is truly a story that needs to be heard loud and clear throughout our land. Surely there is a special section of hell reserved for Ken Starr and his henchmen and women.

McDougal's voice rings true and clear, and she is laugh-out-loud funny. Clearly, her sense of strong humor was one of the many great character traits that helped her survive in the various prisons that the Office of the Independent Council dragged her through in their quest to make her tell lies to suit their own self interests. And the stories she shares of the women she met while encarcerated are truly heart-rending and equally deserving of your attention.

Most of all, this is the story of a woman who finds her own strength in the most harrowing of circumstances. Even if you're not interested in politics one way or the other, you should read this book

Betrayal : How the Clinton Administration Undermined American Security
Published in Hardcover by Regnery Publishing, Inc. (May, 1999)
Author: Bill Gertz
Average review score:

The Impeached President's Worst Crimes
Discovering seminal uses for a cigar with a twenty-something intern was unquestionably Bill Clinton's most famous and salacious scandal, but when all is said and done, it will probably prove to be less pernicious than the events chronicled in Bill Gertz's real life horror story. In a nutshell, Clinton gave away the store. EVERY U.S. military secret was handed over to China. Of course, this nation of unparalleled human rights atrocities did engage in several illegal forms of spying, but had Clinton and his myrmidons not chosen to ignore the blatantly obvious, Bejing would have been far less successful. In stead Clinton's biggest concern was making sure that China's crime did not threaten Most Favorite Nation status for the world's most dangerous rogue. While the other foreign policy lapses covered pale compared to China's pandemic infiltration of our military know-how, Gertz highlights several other deleterious activities. From the Pentagon's covering up a Russian spy ship lazing an American pilot to North Korea's massive starvation of its citizens, the book shows many Clinton foreign policy failures, and all the spin in the White House can't change the facts.

This book has filled me with a newly rekindled respect for the wisdom and foresight of our Founding Fathers. Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and the rest of those brilliant patriots created an impervious form of government when they gave birth to the United States of America. Any government that can survive the unbridled corruption of Bill Clinton and his janissaries simply cannot be overthrown. The only issue that worries me is that as of this writing 13 more Clinton-stained months remain.

Still, if America survives, historians will forever look back and wonder how the nation perdured throughout such rampant rejection of the rules and principles that guided us for 200+ years, (and they'll also ponder why we allowed it.) The answer will ultimately lead back to the heroic sacrifices of those who gave us the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution--two documents betrayed repeatedly by Clinton's twisted view of world affairs.

Extremely Scary.
Years ago I read a novel called "The Red President" about a Soviet agent who manages to become President. That seemed far-fetched then. However, now I'm not so sure. I'm just not sure whether The Manchurian Candidate in the White House works for Russia or China, certainly not for the American people. Millions are given by this Administration to rebuild Russia. The money goes to create new missiles aimed at us. The Clinton administration ignores China stealing our secrets and peddling them to terrorist nations around the world. The administration discredits our own intelligence agencies to keep China happy. The list goes on and on. Like many other books critical of this administration, it has been ignored by most organs of the liberal media. It has become a best seller nonetheless. During the impeachment, I heard many interviewed that supported this President. Most seemed rather uneducated and really had no idea what was going on but knew that they loved Bill Clinton. Some thought that he was a liar and corrupt but wanted him to stay in office anyway. The fact that this book and others like High Crimes and Misdemeanors have become best sellers, despite being ignored by the New York Times, the Today Show, etc., is a clear indication that those critical of this corrupt and loathesome administration are the ones that are out there buying the books and reading.

All Americans should read this book. America's future
This book chronicles national security issues with regards to China, North Korea, Russia and Iraq. The book is highly readable and well researched. It is important for Americans to better understand these issues. North Korea, Russia and China have the ability to hit the USA with nuclear missiles. These same countries are actively selling nuclear missile technology to Pakistan and to enemies of the USA in the middle east. Bruce Ritter and many other patriotic Americans were blocked in their attempts to protect America. Clinton betrayed the American people in a potentially unfixable way. If these issues are not addresed now while there is still time to police these activities, then one day soon it is likely that the USA will be attacked with nuclear weapons. There are many Anti-American types in the democratic party who would say that the USA deserves to be attacked. If this is how they feel they should leave the USA and try their luck somewhere else. Let us thank God that we finally have some real leadership with our new president Bush as well as his advisers Rumsfeld, Powell, Cheney, Rice and Mueller.
